I am so happy with the way this turned out, I love the BoBunny Smoochable collection and this is by far one of my favorite pictures of me and my son.

6 months pure joy - Canadian Scrapbooker February Sketchy Challenge (layout 19)

Hello, I have another layout for you today (I know I was lucky today to get some scrappping in, my back is doing so much better), this one for Canadian Scrapbooker February Sketchy Challenge with another fabulous sketch from the very talented Sue Sykes:

This sketch was so much fun to play with, but figured since it is February, I would change up the circles and do hearts instead and this is what I came up with:

I cut out the hearts with creative memories shape cutter and inked them with distress stain (dusty concord). I wrapped the one heart with american craft twine. The background I misted DCWV (tan cardstock) with tattered angels (jazz blue & dragonfly), Lindy's stamp gang moon shadow mist (moonlit mulberry) and perfect pearl mist (grape). I glued love hearts (yes the actual candies) to flowers (keeping with the valentine's feel). 

I really love how this layout turned out as it really came together like the way I saw it in my mind (don't you just love when your vision comes to life??).

I'm an Aunt! - A2Z Scraplet February Challenge (layout 18)

I don't know about you but I am really starting to like mood board challenges, or maybe they are just so inspirational lately that I am just drawn towards them.

This month's A2Z Scraplets challenge is a mood board:


I was immediately drawn to the top left picture of the white background with red hearts. I have had this idea in my head from a layout I saw on pinterest a while ago and knew that I wanted to make that layout for this challenge. Here is my take:

I used the film strip A2Z scraplet and misted it with Tattered Angels (red punch). I wrote my niece's date of birth, time of birth, and birth weight in the film strips and the rub-ons are 7gypsies. The gigantic exclamation point is done on purpose since when I first got the phone call that Sadie was born I screamed so loud that my parents thought that my brother and sister-in-law could hear me at the hospital (they live 1200kms away). Even though I wasn't there for the birth, I did get to skype with her when they got home from the hospital a couple of days later and met her in person a couple of weeks later when I came home for Christmas.

A couple of more Valentine cards

I know it's last minute (so they will not be there in time for valentine's day since I still have to mail them but hey better late than never):

You are Perfect - LCOM Febraury Colour Spot

I was inspired by the picture and used splatters on my card (like the milk makes a splatter coming out of the glass). I also made a Valentine's Day Card (as with the hearts). Here is my take (a valentine's day card for my son):

My son (who is two) picked out his own valentine cards this year to give to his friends. He loves the wiggles and I swear everyone in the store heard him scream with joy when he saw the Wiggles valentine card box. I took one of his cards and fussy cut the wiggles to add them to this card. I splattered red and blue paint over purple paper. The hearts came from the wiggles box. The banner is recollections.

Memorial - Scrap Around the World February Mood Board Challenge

Last week my brother's father-in-law (suddenly) passed away. Although he had not been feeling well over the last couple of months, it came as quite the shock to all of us. My sister-in-law has two sisters and they are not doing so well. Instead of putting my sorrow for them into words, I turned to creating and created a memorial canvas for each of them. I knew I wanted a black and white photo but beyond that I didn't know what I wanted to do. . .then I came across this month's Scrap Around the World mood board:


I was immediately drawn to the quote and although it was not quite appropriate for this project, I really liked the colours and the splatters. I also took inspiration from the picture of the pots and the triangles that pop out of the pot (I intrepreted it in my canvas as the harlequin  masking with the modeling paste.

Although this is the first time I have submitted to Scrap Around the World, I have been following for a couple of months. Here is my project (I blurred the faces on purpose in respect to the family as their mourn):

To create this canvas I tore 7 dots studio (love letters) paper and glued it to the canvas. I then used Ranger Emboss it clear with The Crafter's Workshop (kasbah 12x12) template and heat embossed Stampendous (opaque white) with my heat gun. I then used Tim Holtz layering stencils (dot fad & harlequin) with my home-made modeling paste and let it dry. I then used tattered angels glimmer mist (cupid, rose, pearl) and misted all over the canvas. I then took acrylic white paint and splattered randomly over the canvas. I then waited a couple of hours for it to dry completely. I matted the photo onto black cardstock and glued it. I then put the banner (heidi swapp cluster banner) on the top and bottom of the photo. I then glued prima white leaves and then added Jolee's (mauve crochet flower) and Flourish with a Bling flower (black & white). To finish the canvas I painted around the edges and sides with distress paint (black soot).

I created three of these (one for each sister), each has different paper and different splatter patterns but basically the same "look." I put them in the mail today (as they live 1200km away) and hopefully they will make it before one sister leaves to go back home. I hope when they open it, they will think of all the happy times they had with their dad and hopefully it will ease their pain a little bit. I hope they know that even though I am not physically there with them that I am thinking of them and am so sorry for their loss.
