love you (layout 331)

I created the following layout based on Stuck?! Sketch October 1st challenge (I flipped it 90 degrees):

At first this sketch completely stumped me but then i went through my pictures (took a while since i have about 200 pictures to scrap) and then i came across this little jewel of a picture of my son and I snuggling on our first camping trip in our new trailer.  It just so happened that the day I picked out the photo to use, Paper Crafter's Corner came out with their Magazine Monday Week 73 inspiration and I knew as soon as i saw it i knew what i wanted to do:

I stamped the background stars with mustard seed and then heat embossed them with martha stewart gold embossing powder. I added the extra stars to make the layout shimmer and misted the background with lindy's starburst tibetan poppy blue to  make it look like a starry night. My son and I always have story time before bed so as soon as i saw the PCC inspiration I knew this was the way i wanted to go.

I started this layout a couple of days ago and finally got it finished!!! I used Paper Secrets sketch by Kelly Holifield:

I just love this kid - October FWAB (layout 328-329)

this month Flourish With a Bling challenge was to create a project that depicts a celebration. I chose to scrap my son playing in puddles. We live up north where we get 5-6 months of snow so our spring/summer/fall is very short!!! Our spring was very wet and after raining for two weeks, it finally cleared up enough that we were able to go outside and play in puddles (this is definitely something to celebrate!!!!).

Papers: DCWV (summer dream stack, printed cork stack)
washi tape: dollar store
banner: heidi swapp (inked with lindy's stamp gang rudolf red nose, tim holtz distress stain crushed olive & mowed lawn)
embellies: american craft twine, basic grey (max & whiskers pieces), doodlebug design (sew easy), studio calico (enamel dots), fancy pants (be different ephemera)
umbrella: a2z scraplet stained with tim holtz (mowed lawn), painted with tim holtz distress paint (mowed lawn) and sprayed with lindy's stamp gang starburst (sea foam green)

Adorable Hug (layout 327)

I have to say that after three weeks of party planning and family it feels so good to get back to scrapping!!! I created the following layout:

I was inspired by GrandDiva's Creative Corner's October Sketch:


Scrappy Friends word challenge (i used adorable in my title):


And Rochelle Spear's Tic Tac Toe challenge (i went vertical and used 4+ patterned papers, orange, and die cut):


I am so loving the way this layout turned out, it is so bright and vibrant and although i used typical fall colours, the picture was actually taken in june 2012. The papers are from DCWV, stamping up, bella bvld, basic grey, and echo park. The flowers are recollections and petaloo, other supplies are we r memory keepers (enamels, sew easy), recollections (alphas), and bo bunny (noteworthy).

Yum in my tum - DCWV October stack-a-holic challenge (layout 326)

I am super excited to share this month's take on Die Cuts With a View's challenge with you because I used my newest DCWV stack (melon twist). When I first saw the stack I thought I would probably make girl layouts with it but nope - first layout using the stack and I scrap my son!!!! Anyways here is this month's inspiration:

I fussy cut the flowers and added some sequins and mists. I absolutely love this layout and am so happy with the way it turned out!!!!

A Cat in the Hat Birthday - Kyle is 3!!!!

October 11th we celebrated Kyle's 3rd birthday. I started prepping weeks ahead of schedule so the week of I could focus on food and visiting with my parents who flew up for the occasion.

Things I did beforehand:

- Kyle and I went to the store and he picked out items he wanted in his pinata. I then divided the candy equally into 50 baggies (most were put in the pinata, the others in a bowl). I made enough packages so each child gets two baggies and each adult gets one baggy. After attending multiple parties where the pinata is a free-for-all and kids scrambling (some injuries) and more than one child crying because he/she got more than he/she did. I decided on the baggy idea that way every child gets the same amount.

- one day while playing playdough, Kyle found a star cookie cutter and went and got his pinata to show me that the two were the same and then he asked for star cookies. I asked him what color he wanted his stars - red red. So that afternoon I made cookies and froze them, the next day i iced and added sugar glitter to them and they went back to the freezer until his birthday.

I couldn't find a thing 1 and thing 2 cut-out so I made my own:

The night before we made icing for the cake and cupcakes (kyle was our official taste-tester):

the morning of (i got up very early since we had to be at the hall for 10 to decorate), I made  cat in the hat pizzas (refridgerated bun dough):

 Kyle was a super big help:

Decor:

I couldn't find a cat in the hat "hat" so i made my own using a canada day hat (took off the maple leave and glue gunned a strip of red felt)

A Day For Play - PageDrafts Guest Designer (layout 325)

As part of being honored as a pagedrafts guest designer, i was asked to create a layout specifically for the occasion. I chose pagedraft 30.5 and created the following:

I am very happy with the way this turned out, the mix of photos with the brightness of Summer Bliss papers really mold well together.
