Another week and another fabulous sketch challenge from Let's Capture Our Memories, this is actually from last week but since I hand-stitched it took a little longer than usual to complete (well and I went camping last weekend so it took a little bit to get caught up, cleaned-up and ready to scrap again). Misc xmas 2012 - PPC Magazine Monday Week 52 (layout 148)

Hello I'm back with another inspiration from Paper Crafter's Corner Challenge Magazine Monday Week 52. Unfortunately, last week I wasn't able to participate since I was so busy getting ready for our first camping trip of the year and just completely ran out of time. This week I was so motivated by the insipiration that I knew that I had to get it done!!! Here is this week's inspiration:
Papercrafting Challenge: Magazine Mondays - Week 52 Inspiration Piece (image)

I was immediately drawn to the hexagons, the mix of photos and papers, and the words above and below the photos. I am trying to get the last of my Christmas 2012 photos scrapped (still have lots of other photos from 2012 to do) and this was the perfect layout to get those last misc photos scrapped. Here is my take:

To begin, i splattered the background with Perfect Pearls Mists (pink gumball), tattered angels (patina), Lindy's stamp gang starburst (freaky franken-lime, clam bake beige). I then cut the hexagons out using my cuttlebug and sizzix die. The rosette embellie is actually a tag from my Christmas present from my brother and sister-in-law that year.

Other supplies:
paper: dcwv (jolly whimsy stack)
stickers: unknown
die-cuts: k&company

Thank you for stopping by and hope you are able to join us for magazine Monday every monday at Paper Crafter's Corner: http://papercrafterscorner.com/blog/papercrafting-challenge-magazine-mondays-week-fifty-two/#/

Winter Wonderland - ScrapMuch Sketch-y Friday (layout 147)

Another Friday and another ScrapMuch sketch-y friday with a sketch from Laura Whitaker. I just love her sketches, they are so fun and versatile!!!!!!!!!!

Here is this week's sketch:

As soon as i saw the sketch i knew i wanted to scrap pictures of when we went to Winter Wonderland and went skating (mom and kyle didn't skate). The swirl reminded me of the ice and although I didn't take pictures of us actually skating (because I hadn't been skating in 5 years and didn't feel comfortable taking pictures while skating so used the pictures of sitting down and watching). Here is my take:

Supplies used:
papers: DCWV (winter holiday stack)
border: k&company
word bubble: studio calico (painted with tim holtz distress paint in festive berries)
embellies: k&company
tags: the sled tag and skating tags are from Christmas presents from my brother and sister-in-law

Thankful - Papercrafting Thanks (layout 146)

Papercrafter's Corner has come up with a new feature on Thursday (in addition to throw-back Thursday) - Thanful Thursdays & The Be Thankful Project.

Lots of ideas for documenting and sharing what each of us (you included!) are thankful for.
Think papercrafting projects such as Thank You cardslayouts about what and who you’re thankful for, art journaling featuring quotes about being thankful, mixed media projects featuring items and products you’re thankful for, capturing what you’re thankful for through the lens of your camera or phone, and a whole lot more!

How can you participate?
By sharing what you’re thankful for each week. Simple, right?
Whether you choose to do some papercrafting to share what you’re thankful for, or you simply want to leave a comment, or just read the comments and view the papercrafting projects created by others, we invite you to partake in what we hope will be a hugely positive life experience.

This got me thinking of what I was helpful for. First thing I thought of was all our wonderful friends and family who are always there to help. I was all set to do a layout about one of our friends' (steve) when I was reading on a rant&rave about a friend's sister whose children have not yet met their grandmother and she was fundraising to make the 8 hour journey so they could meet. This got me thinking about how i take our ability to go home for granted. . .okay maybe granted isn't the right word but flying home or going home is just something i've never thought about being a road-block. I moved 13 hours away back in 1999 and have moved around alberta multiple times since that time; however, I have always come home for Christmas. I am thankful for the ability that I am always able to spend Christmas with my family:

Supplies used:
papers: DCWV (the winter holiday stack)
journaling block: bo bunny (mistletoe note worthy)
stickers: unknown
wreath: k&company
airplane: A2Z scraplets (painted in tim holtz distress paint salty ocean)
word bubble: studio calico (painted in tim holtz distress paint festive berries)
alphas: crate paper

Thank you for stopping by and hope you can all play along on Thankful Thursdays, see you next week: http://papercrafterscorner.com/blog/papercrafting-gratitude-introducing-thankful-thursdays/

Away we go - LCOM #71 (layout 145)

Last Saturday Let's Capture our Memories released their 71st sketch, this one from Page Drafts. Now I have recently discovered Pagedrafts and think they are really fun and challenging sketches because there is usually so much on the page (which is hard for me cause usually i'm very clean and minimalistic) but nevertheless here is this week's sketch:

And here is my take, I altered it a bit by only using two photos (albeit larger and not circle):

Supplies used:
paper: GCD studios
border: bazzill basics (just the edge white)
flowers: unknown
wood veneers: unknown received in my goodie bag at the first crop i ever went to
paint: distress paint (salty ocean)

Easter Grass - Create to Live May Challenge (layout 137)

Here is this month's Susan K. Weckesser's Create to Live challenge:
May2014CTL

I was inspired by the colors and the quote of beauty all around. When my cat was playing in the grass, she was just having so much fun I couldn't help but smile and enjoy how much fun she was having. I decided on using photos of my cat as she is an indoor cat and now that the weather is nicer, there are LOTS of birds outside and our poor cat is harassed all day by these birds. She gets so upset at them and goes from window to window chasing the birds (on the inside). It is quite comical to watch but sometimes it is to the point where I have to close the curtains because she just gets way too upset over not being able to catch the birds (we live in the country where there are bears/coyotes/wolves/foxes running around so not so safe for her to be outside). Here is my layout:

Supplies used:
paper: stampin' up, reminisce (hippity hoppity)
border: k&company (sheer simplicity red)
flourish: recollection (blue)
stamp: studio calico
frisky: junkitz (matz)
ink: distress ink (seedless preserves)
stickers: doodlebug design (bunny hop)

Thank you for stopping by, hope you get a chance to play and create this month for My sweet earth's creat to live challenge: http://mysweetearth.blogspot.ca/2014/05/create-to-live-may-challenge.html

Kiss me better - Flourish with a Bling May Challenge (layout 136)

Another month means another challenge over at Flourish With A Bling. Now if you aren't familiar with them (which I think you should be) they are a fabulous company out of Australia that makes the most amazing pearls, flourishes and other embellies with a hint of bling (aka sparkle) in them. They are so versatile and great to work with, i definitely recommend checking them out and picking some up the next time you are at your local scrapbook store.

Anyways back to this month's inspiration (a mood board):
May-Challenge

I was instantly drawn to the flowers and the limes and took my inspiration from there. Here is my take:

Supplies used:
paper: stampin up, lily bee design (milk bottle)
punch: ek success
flowers: petaloo (color me happy), dollar store
brads: doodlebug design (chunky brads)
rub-ons: fancy pants design
flourish with a bling: pearl (copper)
alphas: studio calico

Dear Santa - DCWV stack-a-holic challenge (layout 135)

Another month and another Die Cut with a View stack-a-holic challenge. Here is this month's inspiration:

Hanging the stockings with care - ScrapMuch sketch-y friday (layout 134)

I was recently introduced to ScrapMuch, a Canadian scrapbooking company/store. They host monthly challenges including sketch-y friday. This Friday's sketch is by Laura Whitaker (you may recognize her name as she is also a sketch designer over at Let's Capture Our Memories):

Here is my take, instead of using three pictures, I used one picture on one side and a sticker on the other side:

Supplies used:
paper: dcwv (evergreen stack)
flower: bazzill basic
sticker: jolee's boutique, unknown

Live Laugh Play - Gelatos course (layout 133)

Last month I went to a course at my local scrapbook store Scrapbook Lounge (https://www.facebook.com/ScrapbookLounge) in Cold Lake, Alberta to learn how to play with gelatos and this is the layout we made (i'm just posting it now since I just put a photo in it):

There are a couple of different gelato techniques in this layout:
1) sunburst is made by mixing gelato with modeling paste over a mask
2) the background behind the photo & papers I took the gelatos and coloured the paper and then used a water brush made it more ombre
3) the flower I painted with gelatos

The Joy & Love of Christmas - Page Drafts One-of-a-kind challenge (layout 131&132)

May 1st Page Draft announced their one-of-a-kind challenge:
Okay so here is the...
CHALLENGE CRITERIA
Its all about celebrating that
'ONE OF A KIND'
extraordinary someone, something, experience or event!

THEME
You can of course scrap about your beautiful mother,  the experience and wonderment of motherhood or maternal bonds that are the glue that keeps your family together, but lets keep that optional. You may instead want to scrap about something extraordinary or that special something because its unique and there is nothing else quite like it. Or alternatively you could include the phrase 'ONE OF A KIND' in your title work, journaling and or quote.

PICK A TEMPLATE
You must use one of the 5 sketches from the 'ONE OF A KIND'  Page Drafts Release #30.
You may rotate the sketches any which way your heart desires however your creation must remain as close as possible to the original sketch design.
NB: You are more than welcome to submit more than one page, digital, traditional, cards and canvasses are all welcome
so long as your project clearly shows a sketch has been used from release #30.

This is the page draft I choose:

And here is my take (the lyrics to jingle bells are around the page):

Supplies used:
paper: dcwv
flags: my mind's eye
flowers: recollections
other embellishments: k&company, webster's pages, belevedere, recollections

When I first saw this challenge last night my first thought was people and their cell phones (especially when out to dinner). But then this morning I woke up and it was snowing and there was snow on the ground (i saw was because although it is still snowing it has warmed up and no longer snow on the ground). So I took  a picture of the snow:

Now since I live in the boonies and don't have access to print my photo right away. I put the poto above and when it is printed i will add it to this layout that i made this morning:

The other NSD layouts (layouts 118-127)

wow what a day, I cannot believe i got so much scrapping accomplished today, although there is no way i could've done it without the love and support of my wonderful husband who from the time he woke up until the time he had to leave for a meeting tonight watched our son all day (including taking him solo out for lunch and a haircut!!!)

i think i overdid it because i have been standing since 7am and it is now 1038 and my back is absolutely killing me, i even took some pain meds about an hour ago and they are not working (well they probably are i'm just that sore).

Anyways without further interuptions here are the other layouts i did

118: created for Scrapmuch? NSD challenge (to have purple somewhere on the layout)

119 & 120: for Scrapmuch? NSD challenge which was a 2-page sketch

121: another ScrapMuch? challenge

122: for a challenge at scrapbook.com which was to use atleast 10 die-cuts

123:  for scrapmuch? challenge: which was based on a sketch

124: another scrapmuch? challenge
125: another scrapmuch? challenge which was to use mixed media
126: another page for scrapmuch? challenge which was to scrap a picture of a selfie

127: another challenge from scrapmuch? which was to watch/read on their techniques that they show every wednesday and then try out one of the techniques (i made the snowflakes)

which brings my grand total of layouts done at NSD 2014 to 21!!!!!!!!
