Stupid Northern Alberta Snow

So last night after my husband got home from work, he convinced me to go to the hospital since I have had an earache since Saturday morning. I pack up my purse and head out to the car. I back up and start driving out my drive-way and I get stuck :( I try backing up and driving forward but caught a patch of black ice and ended up half in the ditch. I walked back to the house and my husband tried to drive me out (unsuccessful).

He finished eating his dinner and we got the thickest blanket in our house and went to his truck. He parked behind my car, I got out and folded up the blanket and put it against my car. My husband then slowly pulled up towards my car until he was just against it. I then got into my car and we both went into drive and he tried to (slowly) push me out -  - it didn't work. I turn my car off again and get into the truck. My husband then backs down the driveway but got stuck in a patch of black ice and slide into the snow that connects our driveway with our neighbours. I got out of the truck (dropped into two feet of snow) and went back inside while my husband tried to get his truck out.

He called me (from his cell) about 10 minutes later and told me to call a tow-truck to dig my car out. I called the only service in town (closest town being 20 minutes away) and he told me that he was the only guy on and that it would be atleast 3 hours!!!!! I put my name on the list.

My husband and the neighbour tried digging out his truck for 45 minutes with no success. We decided that when the tow truck came that he would pull my car out first, then pull my husband's truck out (he had gotten his truck right behind mine).

Tow truck finally came at 10pm (around the 3 hour mark) and pulled our vehicles out. Thankfully, he didn't charge us for two call outs (probably helped we paid cash) and my husband parked our cars on the side of the road.

So now our cars will be parked on the side of the road until the snow melts, or atleast until the temperature stops fluctuating. The problem is that during the day it is -2 so the snow melts, but at night it goes down to -20 so everything that melted freezes which just causes a mess.

We decided that come spring we will be adding gravel to our driveway (at the entrance/exit) where there is a little hill and come summer we will be paving it.

We will also be investing in a snowblower before next winter :)

I have also finished 30&31 but it was still drying while it was light outside today (it was -38 today; we were in a wind chill advisory = chillly) so I will have to take a pic tomorrow and add it then.

Scrapbook & Cards Today - Tuesday Sketch Challenge

If you haven't heard of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine, I STRONGLY suggest you do, they have great ideas and sketches in all their issues (love them!!!). Anyways, I follow them on facebook and last Tuesday they put out a sketch challenge, I love getting into challenges but my son has been teething all week and then I got sick so haven't been able to get to work on it. My husband was an absolute sweetheart today and helped out by playing with our son while I got to scrapbook (love days like this one).

Here is the sketch (it is from PageMaps), and the challenge can be found http://scrapbookandcardstodaymag.typepad.com/scrapbook_cards_today_blo/2013/01/sketches-weve-got-sketches.html:

2013 resolutions

I am a huge believer in making resolutions. I am posting my goals late because I have really had difficulties narrowing down my resolutions. I have broken them down into 3 categories:

1. Something I need: take my ex-husband off our joint bank account. It was my account (have had the account since I was 3) and when we got married, he didn't have a bank account for reasons I'm not getting into here (which should have been a HUGE red flag - but that is another story) so I added him to my account. When we separated, he gave me back the bank card and swore he wouldn't touch the account - - which was true until about 3 weeks ago when he tried to close the account. I found this out while I was on holidays so couldn't do anything about it until I got home and could go to the bank. Last week I went to the bank and closed the account (HOORAY). So one goal down.

2. Something I want: lose another 20 pounds. I know I say this every year which is probably why I started my weight loss journey in October after I saw pictures of myself at my son's 1st birthday party and vowed that I would never look that terrible again. Between October (when I started my weight-loss journey) and middle of December (when I went away for Christmas), I lost 14 pounds. Christmas I ate WAY too much, so when I came back I got back into the routine and since I weighed in before Christmas I am down another 0.5 pounds (probably lost more than that but considering my gain at Christmas I am considering this a step in the right direction).  I have lost this weight using SparkPeople which can be found here: http://www.sparkpeople.com. I am a fan of this site because (1) it's free, (2) it keeps me accountable because I have to track my food, exercise, and water drank, and (3) the supportive network. I will continue to keep you updated with my progress.

3. Something that will make me happy: scrap 365 pages this year (aka page a day challenge). As I complete a page, I will post here

January 15 - starting a new venture

For the last couple of years I have been making scrapbooks for my family and friends. It has come to the point when a girlfriend finds out she is pregnant, she has already started to think of what theme she would like for her baby book. Over the past year (probably since I have been scraping more), my friends and family have been telling me that I should be be selling my scrapbooks to the public. I have thought about this because it is a HUGE step but I decided that this is something that I want to undertake. I have started a facebook page which can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/CraftingInTheSticks. I am very excited about this and am hoping to build up over the next year and in November start attending craft fairs around the Lakeland region. I will keep you all updated on my venture.
